Rihanna Is Launching a Makeup Line (Eventually!)

You know that Rihanna makeup line that you’ve been lighting candles for every Sunday? Well prepare to cry tears of joy because it looks like it’s finally going to happen…whenever Rihanna gets around to it.

Julianne briefly touched on this highly important news yesterday. At a recent event for her new fragrance, Bad Gal Riri spoke to Refinery29 about “Fenty Beauty,” which was trademarked last year under her name. Rihanna’s full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.

“Oh wow, that’s crazy, how did you know that?” she asked. “That is definitely something I am going to have my hands on and would love to do. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, but I’ve always had so much on my hands. But, this time, I’m going to make sure it happens. I’m going to find some time between albums and fragrance to do that. I promise.”

Hmm, her response sounds a little vague and sort of like she didn’t even know her team had trademarked the name. However, we all need a little hope in life, so perhaps she’s just playing coy to throw us off of a splashy holiday release of Fenty Beauty.

Despite how real or unreal Fenty Beauty actually is, Rihanna the makeup magician did offer the dream product she would like to see in her line.

“There are a lot!” says Rihanna. “Lashes that could just put themselves on…lipstick that doesn’t move, but doesn’t dry your lips out, that you don’t need a liner for. I mean, it sounds so unreal.”

Indeed it is unreal, Riri. I wore lashes for the first time last weekend, so if this is at all feasible, please get on that sooner rather than later.

This semi-substantiated rumor remains conceivable because Rihanna does have one of the strongest beauty games out there. She already promotes a lipstick line created by her best friend Leandra and, of course, there were her massively successful collections with MAC.

She launched her first Rihanna Hearts MAC collection back in 2013 and essentially had the company recreate Ruby Woo with some fancier packaging and that shit still sold out in minutes. The summer 2013 Rihanna Hearts MAC collection is still a mainstay in my lipstick rotation.

Clearly the timeline for a Rihanna makeup collection is fuzzy, but I’ll leave you with this fun story:

For the fall 2013 launch of Rihanna Hearts MAC, I dropped the ball and had to physically go into a store to buy the Talk That Talk shade of lipstick. I left work in middle the morning and ran to Bloomingdales where I was met by probably one hundred other rabid New York City women doing the exact same thing.

When word trickled through the crowd that the MAC counter on the first level was sold out of everything, we all rushed up the escalator to the smaller counter on the second floor. I then stood in line for twenty minutes only to finally get to the front of the line and discover that they were sold out of the lipstick, but did I want the Talk That Talk lipliner? Why, yes I did want the lipliner which I then wore as lipstick because it was close enough. Sort of.

What I’m saying is: Whenever it happens, I think a Rihanna makeup line will do pretty well.
